Is there a Hadith along these lines:
Allah dislikes three people
1. Makes pledges he does not fulfil
2. Wasteful
3. One who asks a lot
If so, who/what does the third person refer to?
Answer
Imams Bukhari and Muslim (rahimahumallah) have recorded the following Hadith which is similar:
Sayyiduna Mughirah ibn Shu’bah (radiyallahu’anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu’alayhi wasallam) said:
‘Indeed Allah has forbidden for you:
1. Disobedience of mothers,
2. Refusing to pay what is due, but claiming what isn’t due, and
3. Burying your daughters alive,
and He dislikes for you:
1. Gossiping
2. Asking too much, and
3. Wastage of wealth.
(Sahih Bukhari, Hadith: 5975, 6473, 1477 and Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 4458-4461. Also see Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 4456)
Explanation
‘Asking too much’ has a broad meaning and includes:
a) Asking too many questions, asking difficult questions, or unnecessary questions
b) Asking for wealth (begging)
c) Being inquisitive/intrusive about people’s affairs.

Notes:
1. The first part of the Hadith, mentions ‘disobedience of mothers’. This is not exclusive to mothers, and includes the fathers as well. Mothers were mentioned specifically for they are more commonly disobeyed, in comparison to fathers. Imam Bukhari (rahimahullah) has cited this Hadith in the ‘Chapter of it being a major sin to disobey parents‘.
2. This entire Hadith is so apt in today’s times. Lets read it carefully and abide by it, for the better of our social lives.
