The poor entering Jannah earlier than the rich

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

Regarding the Hadith wherein the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said, “The poor will enter Jannah five hundred years before the rich.”

Does this apply to all the rich people, even those that spend lavishly in charity?

Please can you give a commentary on this Hadith.

Answer

Yes, it does. After reading the Hadiths on this topic, one understands so.

The wealthy will have much more to account for, which will result in the mentioned delay.

Refer: Sunan Tirmidhi, Hadith: 2354, Mirqatul, Hadith: 5243 and Al-Budurus Safirah, Hadith: 524-541.

However, it is also important to note, that Allah Ta’ala may expedite the entry to Jannah of whoever He wishes. Ultimately, all are subject to His mercy.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best,
