Discharging zakah wards off evil from one’s wealth

Answered according to Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

What is the reference for this narration?

إذا أديت زكاة مالك فقد أذهبت عنك شره

Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

“When you have discharged your zakah, then you have warded away its evil” [i.e. the wealth will be protected, he will receive barakah, spend it in avenues of good and it will not be transformed into a serpent on the Day of Qiyamah]

Imam Ibn Khuzaymah and Imam Hakim (rahimahumallah) have recorded these words.

(Sahih Ibn Khuzaymah, Hadith: 2258 and Mustadrak Hakim, vol. 3 pg. 390. Also see: As Sunanul Kubra of Imam Bayhaqi, vol. 4 pg. 84)

Imam Tabarani (rahimahullah) has also recorded this narration with slight variation in the wording.

(Refer: Targhib, vol. 1 pg. 519)

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
