The importance of carrying out deeds solely for Allah Ta’ala

What is the authenticity of this narration?

إذا جمع الله الأولين والآخرين يوم القيامة، ليوم لا ريب فيه، نادى مناد: من كان أشرك في عمله لله أحدا، فليطلب ثوابه من عنده، فإن الله أغنى الشركاء عن الشرك

Answer

Imam Ibn Hibban (rahimahullah) has recorded these words in his Sahih. Imam Tirmidhi (rahimahullah) has recorded it with slight variation in the wording on the authority of Sayyiduna Abu Sa’d ibn Abi Fudalah Al Ansari (radiyallahu ‘anhu).

(Sahih Ibn Hibban, Al Ihsan, Hadith: 404 and Sunan Tirmidhi, Hadith: 3154)

Imam ‘Ali ibn Al Madini (rahimahullah) has declared the chain reliable (sanaduhu salih) and Imam Tirmidhi has declared the Hadith sound.

(Refer: Al Isabah, vol. 12 pg. 292/293 and Sunan Tirmidhi, Hadith: 3154, ‘ilmiyyah edition)

Translation

“When Allah gathers the former and the latter people on the day of Qiyamah -the day there is no doubt in- a caller will announce, ‘Whosoever carried out any action for the sake of someone besides Allah, should seek his reward from him, for Allah is the most independent from all partners”

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
