The martyrdom of Sayyiduna Julaybib (radiyallahu ‘anhu)

Please provide the reference and full narration regarding the Sahabi Julaybib (radiyallahu ‘anhu) who was martyred and Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) found his body besides seven disbelievers he had killed.

Answer

Imam Muslim (rahimahullah) has recorded the incident in question regarding this illustrious and fortunate Sahabi.

Sayyiduna Abu Barzah (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reports:

“Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) was on an expedition and Allah had granted him the spoils of war [The Muslims had gained victory]. Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) asked the Sahabah, ‘Is anyone missing among you?’ They said, ‘So and so and so,’ He again said, ‘Is there anyone missing among you? They said, ‘So and so and so. He then said, ‘Is there anyone missing among you’? They said, ‘No’.

Thereupon Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said, ‘But I am missing Julaybib, so look for him.’ The Sahabah searched for him among the martyred and found him along seven bodies whom he had killed and he had been killed by.

Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) stood by him and said, ‘He killed seven people and then they martyred him, He is from me and I am from him, he is from me and I am from him’.

Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) then placed him on his arms and he was the only one holding/carrying him. A grave was dug for him, he was placed in the grave and was not given ghusl.

(Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 2472)

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
