Hadith about the grave thief in the Bani Israel

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

I need the exact reference for the Hadith about the grave yard thief in Sahih Bukhari (who was from the Bani Israel)

Answer

Perhaps you are referring to the Hadith below?

Sayyiduna Hudhayfah (radiyallahu’anhu) reported that Rasulullah (sallallahu’alayhi wasallam) said:

‘There was a man [in the Bani Israel] who at the time of his death, requested his sons saying: ‘When I die, gather wood and burn a fire. Then place me therein until I am burnt to ashes. Then disperse the ashes in a river on a windy day.’

His sons did as they were told. Allah Ta’ala re-assembled him and asked why he did such a thing?

He replied: ‘Out of your fear.’

Allah Ta’ala then forgave him.’

Another Sahabi who was present; Sayyiduna ‘Uqbah ibn ‘Amr -Abu Mas’ud Al-Badri (radiyallahu’anhu) then added:

‘I also heard this from Rasulullah (sallallahu’alayhi wasallam), and this person was a grave thief.’

(Sahih Bukhari, Hadith: 3452)

In future, please be more specific in your query, to keep us from guessing the exact Hadith that you are referring to.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best,
