Another du’a to be recited after eating

Is the following authentic?

If a person recites the following du’a after eating, he will not be questionable regarding the food:

الحمد لله الذي هو اشبعنا واروانا وانعم علينا وافضل

Translation: All praise belongs to Allah, the one who has satiated us, quenched as and has showered us with bounties.

Answer

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reports an incident when Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam), Sayyiduna Abu Bakr and Sayyiduna ‘Umar (radiyallahu ‘anahuma) went to the home of Sayyiduna Abul Haytham ibn Tayhan (radiyallahu ‘anhu). Sayyiduna Abul Haytham ibn Tayhan (radiyallahu ‘anhu) fed them fresh dates, meat and milk. Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) then said “You will be questioned regarding these bounties on the day of judgement”. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr and Sayyiduna ‘Umar (radiyallahu ‘anahuma) became distressed when they heard this …

Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) then said when you are satiated then you should say:

Al hamdulillahil ladhi huwa ash ba’ana wa arwana wa an’ama ‘alayna wa afdala,

for verily this du’a will suffice for what you have eaten”

(Mustadrak hakim; See Al Hisnul Hasin pg. 86 and Silahul Mu’min of Ibnul Imam -rahimahullah- pg. 394. Also see Ithafus Sadah Al Muttaqin, vol.  7 pg. 124)

Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) told Sayyiduna Abu Bakr and Sayyiduna ‘Umar (radiyallahu ‘anahuma) to recite this du’a after seeing their distress, indicating towards the fact that if you recite this du’a you will not be questioned regarding the food you have just consumed.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best
