An unreliable narration stating that the angels make du’a for the mujahid who hangs his sword on his neck

What is the status of this narration?

إن الله عز وجل يباهي بالـمتقلد سيفه في سبيل الله ملائكته وهم يصلون عليه ما دام متقلده

Answer

This narration is recorded in Tarikh Baghdad as part of a longer narration on the authority of Sayyiduna ‘Ali (radiyallahu ‘anhu).

(Tarikh Baghdad, vol. 9 pg. 365)

However, the Muhaddithun have declared this narration a fabrication. It is therefore not suitable to quote.

(Refer: Tanzihush Shari’ah, vol. 2 pg. 177)

Translation

Certainly Allah Ta’ala boasts to the angels regarding those whose swords are hung around their neck in His path, and they [the angels] make [du’a of forgiveness] for him as long as his sword remains around his neck.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
