An unauthentic virtue regarding the mujahid who carries a sword in the path of Allah

Is this narration authentic?

Answer

This narration is recorded in Mu’jamush Shuyukh of Imam Abu Ya’la and in other Hadith sources, on the authority of Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (radiyallahu ‘anhu).

(Mu’jamush Shuyukh, Hadith: 143)

However, the Muhaddithun have declared this Hadith unreliable.

(Refer: Mizanul I’tidal, vol. 2 pg. 551, number: 4858 and Kanzul ‘Ummal, Hadith: 10788)

The narration is therefore not suitable to quote.

Translation

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reported that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “Whoever carries a sword in the path of Allah, Allah will adorn him with a sash in Jannah. The world from the time it was created by Allah, till the day it will perish will not equal it [the sash]. Verily, Allah ‘Azza wa Jalla boasts about the sword of the warrior, his spear and his weapons and when Allah boasts about a servant, then he will never ever punish him.”
