The nine books of Hadith

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

Most of us know about the six famous books of Hadith, but I wanted to know about the nine famous books of Hadith.

Which three additional collections are included and the reason for their inclusion?

Answer

You are probably referring to the nine books that were indexed in the World renowned Hadith concordance, entitled:

Al-Mu’jamul Mufahras li Alfadhil Hadithin Nabawi.

Those nine are:

1. Sahih Bukhari,

2. Sahih Muslim,

3. Sunan Nasai,

4. Sunan Abi Dawud,

5. Sunan Tirmidhi,

6. Sunan Ibn Majah,

7. Muwatta Imam Malik,

8. Sunan Darimi,

9. Musnad Ahmad.

The authors of this book possibly considered the popularity, and ease of access to these books as the primary reason for their selection.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best,
