When Allah Ta’ala intends good for a person, He makes his heart an admonisher

Could you mention the reference for this narration?

إذا أراد الله تعالى بعبد خيرا جعل له واعظا من قلبه يأمره وينهاه

Answer

Imams Ahmad and Abu Nu’aym (rahimahumallah) have recorded this as the statement of Imam Muhammad ibn Sirin (rahimahullah).

(Kitabuz Zuhd of Imam Ahmad: 1768, Hilyatul Awliya, vol. 2 pg. 264)

Translation

When Allah Ta’ala intends good for a person, He makes his heart an admonisher/adviser, to command and prohibit him.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
