Why is eating pork forbidden

Many people do not know why we are forbidden from eating pork. Besides the health risks, is there anything else we should know about ?

Answer

There are numerous places in the Holy Quran wherein Allah Ta’ala prohibits the consumption of pork.

Among them are:

1.”The consumption of carrion, blood and swine flesh is prohibited” ….

(Surah Al Baqarah: 173)

2. “Forbidden for you is carrion, blood and swine

( Surah Al Ma’idah: 3)

3. “Say (O Muhammad sallalahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) in the revelation that has come to me, I do not find anything forbidden to be eaten by the one who wishes to eat it except carrion, flowing blood, the flesh of swine which is indeed an impurity

(Surah Al An’aam: 145)

4. “Forbidden for you is carrion, blood and swine

(Surah Nahl: 115)

Note: Since the meat of the swine is regarded as it’s biggest benefit, the meat only was mentioned in the above verses. However, the entire swine is intended

(Ahkamul Quran of Imam Jassas vol.1 pg. 151)

The above verses of the Holy Quran are sufficient to prove that consuming pork is totally prohibited. The ‘Ulama caution against questioning Allah Ta’ala’s wisdom behind anything as this may lead a person to denial. Allah Ta’ala alone knows why he has prohibited pork and other items, it is our duty as Muslims to accept and obey.

And Allah Ta’ala knows best
