An occasion when Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) did not eat anything for three days

Please verify the authenticity of this narration:

Sayyiduna Anas narrates, “Once Sayyidah Fatimah presented Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) with a piece of [barley] bread. Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) enquired as to what it was and Sayyidah Fatimah (radiyallahu ‘anha) replied, ‘I baked this bread and I felt [ashamed to eat it all by myself], therefore I brought a piece for you.’ Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) then said, ‘This is the first thing which I have eaten in three days.’”

Answer

Imam Tabarani (rahimahullah) has recorded this narration on the authority of Sayyiduna Anas ibn Malik (radiyallahu ‘anhu). Imam Ahmad (rahimahullah) has recorded a shorter version.

(Al Mu’jamul Kabir, Hadith: 750, Musnad Ahmad, vol. 3 pg. 213)

‘Allamahs Mundhiri and Haythami (rahimahumallah) have declared the narrators of Musnad Ahmad and Tabarani reliable (thiqat).

(Targhib, vol. 4 pg. 188, Majma’uz Zawaid, vol. 10 pg. 312)
