A follow up query on the Sahabi who picked up a morsel of food

In the narration where Sayyiduna Ma’qil ibn Yasar (radiyallahu ‘anhu) picked up a morsel of food which fell, wiped it and ate it, there is mention of farmers or Bedouins poking fun at this. Were they Muslims or Non-Muslims?

Answer

Imam Tabarani (rahimahullah) has recorded the narration with the word ‘الأعلاج’ which refers to Non ‘Arab disbelievers.

(Al Mu’jamul Kabir, Hadith: 450, vol. 20. Refer: An Nihayah Fi Gharibil Hadith, vol. 2 pg. 245)

Therefore, these farmers/villagers were Non Muslims.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
