Reciting Surah Ikhlas eleven times when passing the graveyard

Is this narration authentic?

من مر على المقابر فقرأ قل هو الله أحد أحد عشرة مرة ثم وهب أجرها للأموات أعطي من الأجر بعدد الأموات

Answer

The Muhaddithun have declared this narration a fabrication. It is therefore not suitable to quote.

(Refer: Al Ajwibatul Mardiyyah, vol. 2 pg. 549, Dhaylul La-Alil Masnu’ah, vol. 2 pg. 577. Also see: Lisanul Mizan, vol. 4 pg. 425)

Translation

Whoever passes by the graveyard and recites Surah Ikhlas eleven times and then gifts the reward to the deceased, will receive the reward of the number of deceased.

Note: Some version of this narration reciting Surah Ikhlas mention twenty one times instead of eleven times.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
