Muhammad ibn Sirin (rahimahullah) would lower his voice in the presence of his mother

Is there any reference that Imam Muhammad ibn Sirin would lower his voice when he was with his mother, so much so that an onlooker would think he was ill?

Answer

Yes. ‘Allamah Dhahabi (rahimahullah) has cited this. The narration is as follows:

Ibn ‘Awn (rahimahullah) relates, “When Muhammad ibn Sirin (rahimahullah) was in his mother’s presence, he would talk in such a low tone that you would think he was ill.”

(Tarikhul Islam, vol. 5 pg. 158 and Siyaru A’alamin Nubala, vol. 4 pg. 620)

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
