A Hadith on the virtue of the first generations of this ummah and how to treat others

Is this narration reliable?

Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

“Verily the first generations of this ummah are the best of them and the last of them are the worst of them in differing and sectarianism. Thus, whoever has faith in Allah and the Last Day, then let him meet his end while he treats people the way he would love to be treated”

Answer

Imam Tabarani (rahimahullah) has recorded this narration on the authority of Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn Mas’ud (radiyallahu ‘anhu) with a weak chain.

(Al Mu’jamul Kabir, Hadith: 10517. Refer: Majma’uz Zawaid, vol. 8 pg. 184)

However, The Hadith is well corroborated and is suitable to quote.

(See: Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 1844 and Musnad Ahmad, vol. 2 pg. 161)

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
