The Mahdi will flee from Madinah Munawwarah to Makkah Mukarramah

Is this Hadith authentic?

Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “There will be a dispute following the death of a khalifah, and a man of the Bani Hashim will flee from Al-Madinah to Makkah [fearing that people will try to make him the Khalifah]. [Recognising him as the Mahdi] some of the people of Makkah will come to him and will bring him out against his will, and they will pledge allegiance to him between the corner [Black Stone] and the Maqam…”

Answer

Imams Abu Dawud and Ahmad (rahimahumallah) have recorded this Hadith as part of a longer narration on the authority of Sayyidatuna Ummu Salamah (radiyallahu ‘anha).

(Sunan Abi Dawud, Hadith: 4285, Musnad Ahmad, vol. 6 pg. 316)

Imam Ibn Hibban (rahimahullah) has declared the Hadith authentic.

(Sahih Ibn Hibban; Al Ihsan, Hadith: 6757. Also see: Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah, Hadith: 38378)

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
