Is it Sunnah to sit and eat?

Is it Sunnah to sit and eat?

Answer

It is Sunnah to sit and eat. There are numerous Hadiths wherein Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) prohibited drinking/eating while standing.

Sayyiduna Anas (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) forbade that a person stands and drinks. Qatadah (rahimahullah) asked, ‘what about eating [while standing]?’. He replied, ‘That is worse’.
