A virtue of reciting Surah Kahf on Friday

Is this Hadith authentic?

Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

“Whoever recites Surah Kahf on Friday, a light will shine from his feet to the clouds which will shine on the day of Qiyamah and he will be be forgiven for the [minor] sins committed between the two Fridays.”

Answer

This narration is recorded in Tafsir Abu Bakr ibn Marduyah on the authority of Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Umar (radiyallahu ‘anhuma). ‘Allamah Mundhiri (rahimahullah) has graded the chain sound (bi isnadin la ba-sa bihi).

(Tafsir Ibn Marduyah; Refer: Targhib, vol. 1 pg. 513)

However, ‘Allamah Ibn Kathir (rahimahullah) has expressed reservation in this being a Hadith of Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam). He has graded the chain ‘gharib’ and states that this is better quoted as the statement of Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Umar (radiyallahu ‘anhuma).

(Tafsir Ibn Kathir, beginning of Surah Kahf)
