A du’a asking Allah for guidance

Is the du’a ‘Allahummahdina wahdi bina waj ‘alna sababal limanih tada’

(O Allah! Guide us, guide others through us and make us a means/cause for all those who are rightly guided) a du’a proven from the Hadith of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam)?

Answer

Imam ‘Abdur Razzaq (rahimahullah) has recorded a narration via a weak non continuous chain (منقطع) which states that Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) would make the following du’a:

‘…Allahummahdina wahdi bina…’

(Musannaf ‘Abdur Razzaq, Hadith: 19647)

I have not seen a Hadith with the exact words as in your question. However, there is no harm in reciting a du’a that is not found in Hadith, as long as it is not attributed to Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam).

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best
