A Hadith stating that divorce causes Allah’s throne to shake

What is the status of this narration?

لا تطلقوا فإن الطلاق يهتز منه عرش الرحمن

Answer

Imams Daylami, Ibn ‘Adiy and Hafiz Khatib Baghdadi (rahimahumullah) have recorded this Hadith on the authority of Sayyiduna ‘Ali (radiyallahu ‘anhu).

(Al Kamil, Hadith: 12058, Tarikh Baghdad, vol. 14 pg. 93 and Al-Maqasidul Hasanah, Hadith: 10)

However, The chain consists of an extremely weak narrator.

(Refer: Talkhisu Kitabil Mawdu’at, Hadith: 604, Tanzihush Shari’ah, vol. 2 pg. 202, Faydul Qadir, Hadith: 3289. Also see: Al Maqasidul Hasanah, Hadith: 10)

See here for a suitable alternative.

Translation

Do not divorce, for divorce causes Allah’s throne to shake.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
