Reading the sunnah salah in a different spot after Fard

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

I have heard that there is a Hadith that says after Jumu’ah, one should not pray the sunnah salah in the same spot as he prayed the fard.

Please provide the source.

Answer

Sayyiduna Saib ibn Yazid (radiyallahu’anhu) states: ‘ I read Jumu’ah salah with Sayyiduna Mu’awiyah (radiyallahu’anhu). After the Fard, I stood in the same spot and offered [the nafl/sunnah] salah. When I finished, Sayyiduna Mu’awiyah (radiyallahu’anhu) sent for me and told me: ‘Do not do this again. When you complete your Jumu’ah [fard] salah, do not join another salah after it without either speaking [or reciting something] or by moving away. This is what Rasulullah (sallallahu’alayhi wasallam) instructed us to do.’

(Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 2039)
