Du’a for Jannah seven times after Maghrib

I have read a poster somewhere that after Fajr/Maghrib when one recites ‘Allahumma ajirni minan nar’ [O Allah! Save me from the fire] seven times then one should recite ‘Allahumma inni as-alukal Jannah’ [O Allah! I ask You for Jannah] seven times as well.

Is this mentioned in any Hadith?

Answer

In most of the Hadith collections, there is no mention of the words ‘Allahumma inni as-alukal Jannah.’ See all the references here.

However, according to the annotators of Musnad Ahmad [Risalah edition] these words do appear in 3 manuscripts of Musnad Ahmad. The words appear as follows:

“…And when you perform Maghrib, say the following, seven times before speaking to anyone:

‘Allahumma inni as-alukal Jannah, Allahumma ajirni minan nar’

[O Allah! I ask You for Jannah, O Allah! Save me from the fire] …”

(Musnad Ahmad; Risalah edition, Hadith: 18054 and Darul Hadith edition, Hadith: 17976)

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
