Eating seven ‘Ajwah for seven days

Is it stated in any Hadith that eating seven ‘Ajwah dates every morning for seven days will save a person from being affected with black magic etc.?

Answer

The Hadith recorded in Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim is as follows:

Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said, “Whoever eats seven ‘Ajwah in the morning, will not be affected by poison or magic on that day”

(Sahih Bukhari, Hadith: 5445-5768 and Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 2047)

This particular Hadith does not specify a duration of seven days.

Hafiz Ibn Hajar Al ‘Asqalani (rahimahullah) has alluded to the the following narrations which specify seven days:

1) Imam Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah (rahimahullah) has recorded a Hadith wherein Sayyidah ‘Aaishah (radiyallahu ‘anhu) would advise people to eat seven ‘Ajwah for seven days on an empty stomach.

2) Imam Ibn ‘Adiy (rahimahullah) has recorded a Hadith wherein Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said, ‘Eating seven ‘Ajwah from Madinah for seven days is helpful against leprosy.

(Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah, Hadith: 23945, Al Kamil, vol. 9 pg. 224. Refer: Fathul Bari, Hadith: 5769, vol. 10 pg. 239)

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
