The knowledge of Sayyiduna ‘Umar (radiyallahu’anhu)

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

Is this narration reliable?

Ibn Mas’ud (radiyallahu’anhu) said:

“If ‘ilm of Arabs were put on a side of the scale and ‘Umar’s on the other, his knowledge would have out-weighed it.”

Answer

1. This is also recorded by Imams Hakim and Tabarani (rahimahumallah).

The chain for this is authentic.

(Mustadrak Hakim, vol. 3 pg. 86, Al-Mu’jamul Kabir, Hadith: 8808, 8809 and Majma’uz Zawaid, vol. 9 pg. 69)

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best,
