Do not call your father by his name and do not walk ahead of him

Is this narration suitable to quote?

أن أبا هريرة أبصر رجلين، فقال لأحدهما: ما هذا منك؟ فقال: أبي، فقال: لا تسمه باسمه، ولا تمش أمامه، ولا تجلس قبله

Answer

Imam Bukhari (rahimahullah) has recorded this narration in Al Adabul Mufrad. The narration is suitable to quote.

Imam ‘Abdur Razzaq (rahimahullah) has recorded a slightly longer version.

(Al Adabul Mufrad, Hadith: 44, Musannaf ‘Abdur Razzaq, Hadith: 20134. Also see: Majma’uz Zawaid, vol. 8 pg. 137 and Al ‘Ilal of Imam Daraqutni, Hadith: 3549)

Translation

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (radiyallahu ‘anhu) once saw two men. He asked one of them, ‘How is this man related to you’? He replied, ‘My father.’ Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (radiyallahu ‘anhu) then said [advising him on how to respect one’s father], ‘Do not call him by his name, do not walk ahead of him and do not sit down before him.’

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
