Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) desired that every person memorise Surah Yasin and Surah Mulk

Are the following narrations authentic?

1) Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “I wish that it was in the heart of every person of my Ummah, i.e. Surah Yasin”

2) Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “I wish that it was in the heart of every person of my Ummah, i.e. Surah Mulk”

Answer

1. Imam Bazzar (rahimahullah) has recorded the first narration on the authority of Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Abbas (radiyallahu ‘anhuma).

(Musnad Bazzar; Kashful Astar, Hadith: 2305)

2. Imam Tabarani (rahimahullah) has recorded the second narration on the authority of Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Abbas (radiyallahu ‘anhuma) as well.

(Al Mu’jamul Kabir, Hadith: 11616. Also see: Mustadrak Hakim, vol. 1 pg. 565)

These Hadiths have been reported with weak chains. However, they are suitable to quote as incentives for memorising these Surahs, like is the case of Hadiths of this nature.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
