A recommended du’a to recite when using the miswak

Is this authentic?

Du’a to be read at the time of using miswak:

اللهم طهر فمي، ونور قلبي، وطهر بدني، وحرم جسدي على النار، وأدخلني برحمتك في عبادك الصالحين

Allahumma tahhir fami, wa nawwir qalbi, a tahhir badani, a harrim jasadi ‘alan nar, wa adkhilni birahmatika fi ‘ibadikas salihin

Answer

This du’a has been recommended by the Fuqaha to recite when using the miswak. ‘Allamah ‘Ayni (rahimahullah) has also cited this du’a.

(‘Umdatul Qari, Hadith: 887, vol. 5 pg. 31)

I have not come across these words in a Hadith. However, the du’a is suitable to recite without deeming it a Sunnah.

After citing another recommended du’a to recite when using the miswak, ‘Allamah Nawawi (rahimahullah) states, ‘Although this du’a does not have any basis, there is no harm [in reciting it] for it is an excellent du’a.

(Al Majmu’ Sharhul Muhaddab, vol. 1 pg. 337)

Translation of the du’a in question

O Allah! purify my mouth, enlighten my heart, purify my body, make my body forbidden upon Jahannam and admit me through Your Mercy among your pious slaves.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
