Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) seeks forgiveness on behalf of Hudhayfah ibn Al Yaman and his mother (radiyallahu ‘anhuma)

Is this Hadith reliable?

Answer

Imam Ibn Hibban (rahimahullah) has declared this version authentic.

(Sahih Ibn Hibban; Al Ihsan, Hadith: 7126)

Imam Tirmidhi (rahimahullah) has recorded the narration with variation in the wording.

(Sunan Tirmidhi, Hadith: 3781)

Translation

Sayyiduna Hudhayfah ibn Al Yaman (radiyallahu ‘anhu) says, “My mother asked me, ‘When last did you visit Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam)?’ I replied,’I haven’t visited him [for quite some time].’ She rebuked me, So I said, ‘I will go and offer Salah behind him and will ask him to seek forgiveness on our behalf.’ Hudhayfah (radiyallahu ‘anhu) says, ‘I went and performed Maghrib Salah behind him. Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) then offered [optional Salah]. He proceeded and I followed him. He asked, ‘Who is this?’ I said, ‘Hudhayfah ibn Al Yaman.’ Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said, ‘What brings you here’? I informed him of my mother’s request. Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said, ‘May Allah forgive you and your mother”

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
