A narration stating a minimum duration for which the inhabitants of Jahannam will have to remain therein

What is the authenticity of the following narration?

Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said, “By Allah, None will exit Jahannam until he spends a few hiqb in there.” One hiqb is approximately eighty (80) years, each year is 360 days.

Answer

Imam Bazzar (rahimahullah) has recorded this narration on the authority of Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Umar (radiyallahu ‘anhuma).

(Musnad Bazzar; Al Bahruz Zakkhar, Hadith: 5980)

Hafiz Ibn Hajar and ‘Allamah Haythami (rahimahumallah) have declared a narrator very weak. Imam Ibn ‘Adiy (rahimahullah) has declared the Hadith unreliable (munkar) and ‘Allamah Dhahabi (rahimahullah) has declared the Hadith a fabrication.

(Mukhtasar Zawaid Bazzar, Hadith: 2249, Majma’uz Zawaid, vol. 10 pg. 395 and Lisanul Mizan, vol. 4 pg. 176/177)

The Hadith should not be quoted.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
