Reward for performing wudu when one is already in the state of purity

There is a Hadith which states, ‘Whoever makes wudu when he is in the state of purity [i.e he has not broken the previous wudu], ten good deeds will be recorded for him.’

Is it authentic?

Answer

This Hadith is recorded in Sunan Tirmidhi, Sunan Abi Dawud and Sunan Ibn Majah.

(Sunan Tirmidhi, Hadith: 61, Sunan Abi Dawud, Hadith: 63, Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith: 512)

Imam Tirmidhi (rahimahullah) has declared the Hadith weak. The Hadith is suitable to quote as is the case with Hadiths of this nature.
