Not the face of a liar

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

‘Not the face of a liar’

I heard that ‘Abdullah ibn Salam (radiyallahu ‘anhu) made this comment when Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam) entered Madinah for the first time.

What is the reference for this Hadith, and is it sahih?

Answer

Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn Salam (radiyallahu ‘anhu) says:

‘When Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam) arrived in Madinah, the people rushed to meet him, saying the Messenger of Allah has arrived. I also came to him. When I saw his face, I knew that it was not the face of a liar.’

(Sunan Tirmidhi, Hadith: 2485, Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith: 3251, Mustadrak Hakim, vol.3 pg.13 and vol.4 pg.159-160, Musannaf ibn Abi Shaybah, Hadith: 25898 and others)

Imams Tirmidhi and Hakim (rahimahumallah) have declared this Hadith as authentic (sahih).

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best,
