Stay in your home during the time of fitnah

Kindly provide the reference for this Hadith

Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

“There will come after me a tribulation like the dark of night, in which a man will awaken as a believer and enter evening as a disbeliever, or awaken as a disbeliever and enter evening as a believer.” A man among the Muslims said, ‘What shall we do in that case, O Rasulullah?’ Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said, “Stay in your homes and hide yourselves”

Answer

Imam Tabarani (rahimahullah) has recorded these words on the authority of Sayyiduna Jundub ibn Sufyan (radiyallahu ‘anhu). Imam Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah (rahimahullah) has also recorded the narration with slight variation in the wording. Hafiz Ibn Hajar and Imam Busiri (rahimahumallah) have declared this chain sound (hasan).

(Al Mu’jamul Kabir, Hadith: 1724, Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah, Hadith: 38585, Al Matalibul ‘Aaliyah, Hadith: 4341 and Ithaful Khiyarah, Hadith: 9799. Also see: Majma’uz Zawaid, vol: 7 pg. 303)

The following words also appear in Sahih Muslim (Hadith: 118):

‘Hasten to perform good deeds before the emergence of trials like pieces of a dark night. A man will awake as a believer and end the day a disbeliever, or end the day a believer and wake as a disbeliever’

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
