A narration on saying Alhamdulillah thrice when one is blessed with a bounty

Is the following authentic?

Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

“When a servant of Allah is blessed with a bounty from Allah and he says ‘Alhamdulillah’  then the servant has fulfilled showing gratitude for that bounty. If he says ‘Alhamdulillah’ for a second time, Allah will renew the reward for him and if he says ‘Alhamdulillah’ three times then Allah will forgive all his sins”

Answer

Imam Hakim and Imam Bayhaqi (rahimahumallah) have recorded this Hadith on the authority of Sayyiduna Jabir (radiyallahu ‘anhu).

(Mustadrak Hakim, vol. 1 pg. 507/508 and Shu’abul Iman, Hadith: 4090)

However, this Hadith has been transmitted through an extremely weak narrator.

‘Allamah Dhahabi (rahimahullah) has declared the Hadith unreliable (munkar). ‘Allamah Mundhiri (rahimahullah) has echoed similar sentiments.

(Talkhisul Mustadrak, Mizanul I’tidal, vol. 2 pg. 513/514, Targhib, vol. 2 pg. 437/438 and Faydul Qadir, Hadith: 7843)

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.

This narration seems suitable for practice according to ‘Allamah Jazari and Ibnul Imam (rahimahumallah). Due to this difference of opinion, one who does practice on this should not be condemned.

(Al Hisnul Hasin, pg. 121 and Silahul Mu’min, Hadith: 924 )
