Reason for Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) ordering us to occasionally walk barefoot

Have the commentators of Hadith given a reason as to why Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) ordered us to walk barefoot occasionally?

Answer

Mulla ‘Ali Al Qari (rahimahullah) cites three reasons as to why Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) ordered us to walk barefoot occasionally :

  1. To create humility within a person
  2. To break one’s ego
  3. To become accustomed to it as sometimes a person will be forced to walk barefoot

(Mirqat, vol. 8 pg. 291, Hadith: 4449)
