Reference for the du’a before intercourse

What is the reference for the following du’a before intercourse

‘O Allah, protect us from Shaytan and protect any child You grant us from Shaytan’

Answer

Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Abbas (radiyallahu ‘anhuma) reports that Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

“If one of you intends to [have intercourse] with his wife, he should say, Bismillah Allahumma jannibnash shaytana wa jannibish shaytana ma razaqtana, for if a child is decreed for them, Shaytan will not harm the child”

(Sahih Bukhari, Hadith: 141, 6388 and Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 1434)

The Arabic text of the du’a:

بِاسْمِ الله، اللَّهُمَّ جَنِّبْنَا الشَّيْطَانَ، وَجَنِّبِ الشَّيْطَانَ مَا رَزَقْتَنَا

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
