‘Umar (radiyallahu ‘anhu) favours Usamah ibn Zayd (radiyallahu ‘anhuma)

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

Can you confirm the source and authenticity of the narration which states that Sayyiduna ‘Umar ibn Al Khattab (radiyallahu ‘anhu) stipulated a larger amount for Sayyiduna Usamah ibn Zayd (radiyallahu ‘anhuma) and gave his own son ‘Abdullah (radiyallahu ‘anhu) less. When questioned, Sayyiduna ‘Umar responded, ‘Usamah was more beloved to Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) than you were, and his father was more beloved to Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) than your father was’

Answer

Imam Ibn ‘Asakir and others have recorded this incident. Hafiz Ibn Hajar Al ‘Asqalani (rahimahullah) has declared the incident authentic (sahih).
