Durud (salutations) being a form of light on the Sirat

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

Is this Hadith authentic?

“The invocation of blessings on me is a light on the Sirat.” (Kanzul Ummal, Hadith: 2149)

Answer

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (radiyallahu’anhu) reported that Rasulullah (sallallahu’alayhi wasallam) said:

‘Sending salutations upon me is a means of light on the sirat (bridge on the day of Judgement). Whoever sends eighty salutations upon me on a Friday, will have eighty years sins forgiven.’

This is recorded by the following Hadith authorities in their respective collections: Daraqutni in Afrad, Abu Nu’aym, Al-Azdy, Ibn Bashkuwal and others with two different chains.

‘Allamah Sakhawi (rahimahullah) has declared both the chains as weak.

(Al-Qawlul Badi’ pg. 399. Also see Masalikul Hunafa, pg.232)

Weak Hadiths can be accepted for the purpose of encouragement and virtues of deeds, as is the case above.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best,
