Shaytan’s plea at the time of the conquest of Makkah

What is the authenticity of this?

When Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) conquered Makkah Mukarramah, Shaytan let out a shriek and told the other Shayatin that after today, there is no way we can make the ummah of Muhammad ascribe partners to Allah.

Answer

Imam Tabarani (rahimahullah) has recorded the Hadith in question as the statement of Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Abbas (radiyallahu ‘anhuma). The full narration is as follows:

When Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) conquered Makkah, Iblis let out a shriek, upon which his army [of other shayatin] gathered. Iblis said to them, ‘We have lost all hope of making the ummah of Muhammad polytheists after today, but test them and cause mischief in their Din and cause wailing [over the dead] to be widespread among them’

(Al Mu’jamul Kabir, Hadith: 12318)

Hafiz Haythami (rahimahullah) has declared the narrators reliable.

(Majma’uz Zawaid, vol. 3 pg. 13. Also see Targhib, vol. 4 pg. 350)

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
