A virtue of remembering Allah Ta’ala after Fajr and after ‘Asr

Kindly mention a narration on the virtue of remembering Allah after Fajr and after ‘Asr Salah.

Answer

Verses of Quran:

1) Allah Ta’ala says:

“So glorify Allah’s purity in the evenings and the mornings”

(Surah Rum, Verse: 17)

2) Allah Ta’ala says:

“O you who have brought Iman, remember Allah in abundance and glorify him in the morning and the evening”

(Surah Ahzab, verse: 41 and 42)

Virtue from Hadith:

Sayyiduna Anas ibn Malik (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

“It is more beloved to me that I remain seated with people remembering Allah after Fajr Salah until sunrise than emancipating four slaves from the children of Isma’il, and that I sit with the people who remember Allah after ‘Asr Salah until sunset is dearer to me than freeing four [slaves].”

(Sunan Abi Dawud, Hadith: 3659 with a sound chain. Refer: Al Mughni ‘An Hamlil Asfar, Hadith: 86 and Hidayatur Ruwat, Hadith: 930)

There are numerous narrations which discuss the virtue of engaging in dhikr after Fajr and after ‘Asr. ‘Allamah Mundhiri (rahimahullah) has dedicated a chapter in his Targhib on this topic.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
