Treat people according to their status

What is the authenticity of the following narration:

Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

“We have been commanded to treat people according to their status/rank”

Answer

The Hadith in question has been recorded in numerous Hadith collections with different chains and slight variations in the wordings.

(Sunan Abi Dawud, Hadith: 4809, Musnad Abu ya’la, Hadith: 4826, Shu’abul Iman, Hadith: 10489)

Imam Muslim (rahimahullah) has also cited this narration in the foreword of his Sahih without a chain of narrators (ta’liqan).

(Foreword of Sahih Muslim, with Al Minhaj, pg. 16)

By virtue of the various chains and supporting narrations, ‘Allamah Sakhawi (rahimahullah) has declared the Hadith as sound (hasan). The Hadith is therefore suitable to quote and practice upon.

(Refer: Al Maqasidul Hasanah, Hadith: 179)

And Allah Ta’ala knows best.
