Unjustly harming a Muslim is like destroying the Ka’bah

Kindly provide the reference for the Hadith that states breaking the heart of a Mu’min is like breaking the Ka’bah seventy times?

Answer

I have not come across this narration. The Muhaddithun mention a similar narration which they too could not locate. The narration is as follows:

“Destroying the Ka’bah stone by stone is lighter in the sight of Allah than murdering a Muslim”

However this narration is also untraceable. These narrations should not be quoted.

‘Allamah Sakhawi (rahimahullah) and other Muhaddithun after citing this untraceable narration state that there are other narrations which have a similar meaning. These narrations should be quoted instead:

1) Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

“Whomsoever harms a Muslim unjustly it is as if he has destroyed the Ka’bah”

(Tabarani)

2) Numerous Sahabah have reported that when Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) looked at the Ka’bah he would say:

“Allah has granted you honour, nobility and respect but the believer is more honourable than you”

(Ibn Majah and Tabarani)

3) Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

“In the sight of Allah, killing a believer is worse than the termination of the entire world”

(Nasa’i)
