Interpreting the Quran without knowledge

What is the authenticity of the following narrations:

1. Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) warned

“He who interprets The Quran without having knowledge let him prepare his place in Jahannam”

2. “He who interprets The Quran with his own opinion and is correct, has indeed still erred.”

Answer

Imam Tirmidhi (rahimahullah) has recorded these narrations. He has graded the first narration as sound (hasan)- some editions of Tirmidhi have the words hasanun sahih– and the second narration as weak.

(Sunan Tirmidhi, Hadith: 2950 and 2952)

Both are suitable to quote though.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best
