Deeds that will assist in crossing the ‘sirat’ (bridge over Jahannam)

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

Dearest Moulana, I have a question regarding the speed which people will cross the Sirat. Several hadiths including those of Bukhari mention the different speeds with which the people will cross the bridge over Jahannam.

Is there any Hadith that mentions the type of actions they did to cross the Sirat at each speed?

Answer

I haven’t seen anything so explicit in the hadith.

However, ‘Allamah Suyuti (rahimahullah) has quoted a list of hadiths that mention the deeds that will assist a person to cross the sirat, without specifying any speed.

The more reliable ones are as follows:

1. Assisting one’s fellow brother in need.

2. Fulfilling the rights of one’s wealth (by earning & spending correctly)

3. Avoiding innovation (bid’ah)

(refer to: Al-Budurus Safirah, pg.234)

May Allah Ta’ala allow us to cross speedily and safely. Amin.

And He alone Knows best,
