Using water heated by the sun

I remember reading somewhere a Hadith of Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) that water heated by the sun should not be used because there is the possibility of contracting white leprosy.

Is there such a Hadith?

Answer

This has been reported as a Hadith of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) through several very weak chains. The Muhaddithun have declared the Hadith a fabrication/unreliable. This should therefore not be quoted as a Hadith of Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam).

(Sunan Daraqutni, Hadith: 86-87, As Sunanul Kubra, vol. 1 pg. 6-7, Ma’rifatus Sunan Wal Athar of Imam Bayhaqi, vol. 1 pg. 140, Nasbur Rayah, vol. 1 pg. 101-103 and Al Manarul Munif, Hadith: 88)

Imam Daraqutni (rahimahullah) has also recorded this narration as the statement of Sayyiduna ‘Umar (radiyallahu ‘anhu) with a suitable chain.

(Sunan Daraqutni, Hadith: 88. Refer: At Talkhisul Habir, Hadith: 8-11)

Note: This should not be viewed as a Fiqh ruling. Kindly refer to a reliable Mufti/Darul Ifta for a ruling on this matter.

And Allah Ta’ala knows best.
