Surah Takathur is equivalent to one thousand verses

I came across a Hadith which states reading Surah At Takathur is like reciting one thousand verses.

Is this authentic?

Answer

Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Umar (radiyallahu ‘anhuma) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

‘Can one of you not recite a thousand verses daily’? They said, ‘Who is able to recite a thousand verses?’ Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) replied, ‘Aren’t you able to recite Alhakumut Takathur’?  [Surah 102]

(Mustadrak Hakim, vol. 1 pg. 566/567 and Shu’abul Iman, Hadith: 2287)

Imam Hakim has declared the narrators reliable and Hafiz Dhahabi concurs. Also see Targhib, vol. 2 pg. 379 and Lisanul Mizan, vol. 5 pg. 456

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
