A fabrication regarding ‘Ali (radiyallahu ‘anhu) and the bridge (sirat)

Is this Hadith authentic?

Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

“No one will be permitted to cross [an incline] by the bridge (sirat) on the Day of Qiyamah except through the permission/wilayah of Ali (radiyallahu ‘anhu)”

Answer

Hafiz Khatib Baghdadi (rahimahullah) has recorded this as part of a longer narration. However, he as well as other Muhaddithun have declared the Hadith a fabrication.

(Tarikh Baghdad, vol. 12 pg. 78-79, Lisanul Mizan, vol. 5 pg. 339 and Tanzihush Shari’ah, vol. 1 pg. 366)

A similar narration has also been recorded through two other chains. Both these chains also consist of fabricators.

(Refer: Talkhisu Kitabil Mawdu’at of ‘Allamah Dhahabi, Hadith: 295 and Tanzihush Shari’ah, vol. 1 pg. 366-367)

The Hadith in question is not suitable to quote.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
