Was Idris (‘alayhis salam) lifted into the heavens alive?

Was Idris (‘alayhis salam) raised to the heavens like how ‘Isa (‘alayhis salam) was?

Answer

Hafiz Ibn Hajar Al ‘Asqalani (rahimahullah) states, ‘Idris (‘alayhis salam) being lifted to the heavens alive is not proven in any authentic/reliable narration from Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam)’

Hafiz Ibn Hajar (rahimahullah) then cites a narration sourced from Historical sources which suggests that Idris (‘alayhis salam) was lifted into the heavens alive and the Angel of death took his life in the fourth heaven.

Hafiz Ibn Hajar (rahimahullah) then says, ‘Allah Knows best regarding the authenticity of this’.

(Fathul Bari, Hadith: 3342)

After citing this Historical narration, ‘Allamah Ibn Kathir (rahimahullah) states, ‘Some parts of this narration are unreliable’ [fi ba’dihi nakarah]

(Tafsir Ibn Kathir, Surah Maryam, Verse: 56-57. Also see Ma’ariful Quran, Surah Maryam, Verse: 56-57)

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
