Answer

This statement of Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Abbas (radiyallahu ‘anhuma) is recorded in At Tabaqatul Kubra of Imam Ibn Sa’d (rahimahullah).

(Tabaqat Ibn Sa’d, vol 5 pg. 219)

Imam Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah (rahimahullah) has also recorded similar a similar narration.

(Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah, Hadith: 30966 and 30989)

Hafiz Ibn Hajar (rahimahullah) states that Imam Abu Ja’far at Tabari (rahimahullah) has recorded the following Hadith of Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) on the authority of Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Abbas (radiyallahu ‘anhuma):

“Whoever commits adultery, Allah Ta’ala removes the light of Iman from his heart. If he wishes to return it, he does so”

Hafiz Ibn Hajar (rahimahullah) further states that this Hadith is corroborated by a Hadith recorded in Sunan Abi Dawud, (Hadith: 4657).

(Fathul Bari, Hadith: 6772)
